Will fragrance oils affect my skin?
I recently started using a toner I like a lot. However, it smells quite strongly floral, and the scent lasts a long time. I feel like I’m wearing a perfume all over my face! I’m not sure exactly what they’ve used to scent it, but whatever it is doesn’t seem to bother my skin, so I’m happy.
Although it is a nice smell, it is a little too… flowery for me. Since I’ve committed to a bit bottle of the stuff, I was thinking it would be easy to purchase a fragrance oil, maybe a citrus scent (rather than a citrus essential oil, which I know might affect the skin) and add a tiny bit. I wouldn’t want to do this if it would alter the effects of the product, though. Is there a chance it might? I think the brand carries an unscented version. In the future, if I buy the unscented version and added fragrance or essential oils, can that hurt my skin?
Basically, are fragrance oils safe to use on the skin?
A lot of toners are made using hydrosols (sometimes refered to as floral waters)

As fraganace oils tend to contain artificial substances, I would err on the side of caution and not use these fragrance oils to make anything to be applied to the skin either neat or diluted. The fragrence oil may also effect the product in an adverse way, so I would not advising mixing a foreign element to an already tried and tested stable product.
